Submission Portal — Flesh & Parchment Vol. 4: DEVOUR

Flesh & Parchment is now open for submissions for Volume Four: DEVOUR.

We are inviting work that responds to Devour as a sensation rather than a rule — hunger, saturation, fixation, intimacy, excess, disappearance, or anything that resists neat naming.

All experience levels welcome. Pseudonyms are accepted.

FAQs can be found at the bottom of this page.

FAQs — Flesh & Parchment Vol. 4: DEVOUR

Who can submit?

Anyone. We welcome emerging and established artists, writers, and makers from anywhere.

Can I submit under a pseudonym?

Yes. Pseudonyms are accepted and will be used for publication and crediting.

How many pieces can I submit?

You may submit up to five (5) pieces in total.

Is there a word limit?

Yes. Text-based submissions must be no more than 1,000 words per piece.

Can I submit excerpts from a longer work?

Yes. Please make sure the excerpt stands on its own, or include a brief note for context.

Can I submit work in progress?

We’re open to work that feels unfinished in a living way, but submissions should be complete enough to publish if selected.

Do you accept collaborative work?

Yes. Please list all contributors clearly and confirm that everyone involved consents to the submission.

What file formats do you accept?

PDF, DOC/DOCX for text-based work.
JPEG or PNG for visual work.

Can I submit visual and written work together?

Yes. Mixed submissions are welcome.

Is there a size or resolution limit for images?

There’s no strict limit, but please keep files to a reasonable size for upload. High-resolution versions may be requested later if your work is selected.

Do you accept previously published work?

Yes, unless stated otherwise. Please let us know where the work has appeared.

Do you accept simultaneous submissions?

Yes. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please let us know as soon as possible.

Will you edit my work if it’s selected?

Possibly, but always collaboratively. Any edits will be discussed with you before publication.

Can I make changes after submitting?

Minor updates are sometimes possible before the deadline. Please email us as soon as you can with the revised version.

Can I withdraw my submission?

Yes. Please email us before decisions are final.

Do you provide feedback on submissions?

Due to the volume of submissions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback, but we read every piece with care.

How are submissions selected?

Selections are made by the Flesh & Parchment editorial team, based on how the work resonates with the theme, the volume as a whole, and the material itself.

Will I be notified if my work is not selected?

Yes. All submitters will be notified once decisions are made.

Do you pay contributors?

At this time, we’re not able to offer payment.
Flesh & Parchment is an independently run project, and we aim to give back through careful editing, thoughtful presentation, and contributor copies.

Who retains the rights to the work?

You do.

Will contributors receive a copy of the zine?

All selected contributors will receive:

  • A free digital copy of the volume

  • Access to a discounted print copy

  • A free gift with any physical order or attendance at the launch

Will my work be published online, in print, or both?

Print is our primary format.
Selected work will appear in the physical edition of Flesh & Parchment Vol. 4.

Digital versions will also be created and shared privately with contributors at no cost.

Can I promote my published work?

Yes — and we encourage it. Once published, you’re welcome to share your work with credit to Flesh & Parchment.

Is there content you won’t accept?

We are open to difficult, explicit, or challenging work, but we do not accept submissions that promote hate, harassment, or harm toward others.

I’m unsure if my work fits — should I submit anyway?

Yes. If you’re questioning it, that’s often a good sign.
